A Friday night season opener and games on both Good Friday and ANZAC Day will headline the 2014 NFL Division 1 season.
The three showcase matches mean there will be a match played on Friday in each of the opening three rounds of the season.
For the third consecutive year, Northcote Park will begin its campaign under lights when it hosts West Preston-Lakeside at Bill Lawry Oval in the 2014 season opener on Friday, April 4.
Eltham and Greensborough will meet at Eltham Central Reserve on Good Friday in a stand-alone game over the Easter weekend. The Panthers-Boro match will be played at the back end of Round 2, with the remainder of the competition to sit out the Easter period.
The following Friday, Heidelberg will host Northcote Park on ANZAC Day in a blockbuster clash at Warringal Park.
The sides will play another stand-alone game in Round 13, with that match to take place on July 12 when all other Division 1 clubs take their second bye of the season.
Bundoora will unfurl its 2013 Division 1 premiership flag in Round 1 when it hosts newly-promoted Whittlesea at Yulong Reseve. The following week the Bulls head to Montmorency in a replay of the 2013 Division 1 Grand Final.
Whittlesea’s 2013 Division 2 premiership flag unveiling will take place in Round 2 when it takes on Heidelberg at Whittlesea Showgrounds.
The five matches scheduled for the opening round are:

Lower Plenty v Eltham @ Montmorency Park
Bundoora v Whittlesea @ Yulong Reserve
Greensborough v Montmorency @ War Memorial Park
Heidelberg v Macleod @ Warringal Park
Each side that plays away in Round 1 will then play a home match in the following round.
There will again be no Division 1 matches played over the Queen’s Birthday weekend, while only one match has been scheduled on July 12 – the same day that a Vic Metro representative side will take on the best of Vic Country.
