The 2018 Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 Team of the Year has been announced.

The Northern Football Netball League congratulates all players selected in the team.

The Team of the Year is selected by collating nominations submitted from each of the division’s senior coaches. Coaches MVP votes and umpire votes are also taken into consideration.

A squad of 40 players was announced on Monday, from which the 2018 Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 Team of the Year has been selected.

Macleod and North Heidelberg have the most representatives with five apiece, while grand finalist West Preston-Lakeside has three players selected in the team.

Frank Rosbrook Medal winners Michael Brunelli (centre) and Lucas Hobbs (ruck rover) were named in midfield positions, while Coaches MVP Paul Dirago was selected at centre half back.

It was the fifth-straight year Hobbs was named in the Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 Team of the Year, while for Brunelli it was a third-consecutive selection.

Hobbs’ effort was bettered only by Macleod teammate Justin White, who was named in the side for the eighth-consecutive season – a run that extends back to 2011. White was also named in the 2009 Division 2 Team of the Year.

Brunelli, Hobbs and White are among nine players to retain their place from the 2017 Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 Team of the Year. The others include Josh Grabowski, Jordan Perry, Brad Leggett, Ned McKeown, Nick Riddle and Ahmed Saad.

Nick Riddle was named at full back for the fourth season in a row, while it was also the fourth-straight year Ned McKeown featured in the team, after this year finishing runner-up for the Frank Rosbrook Medal.

North Heidelberg quartet Jhye Baddeley-Kelly, Brent Harvey, Shane Harvey and Jesse Tardio were all named on the field after featuring in the 2017 A Plus Labour Solutions Division 2 Team of the Year.

Peter Hood also earned selection in his first season at Bundoora after featuring in the 2017 A Plus Labour Solutions Division 2 Team of the Year while playing with the Fitzroy Stars.

All players selected in the Team of the Year will receive a framed poster of the squad, which will be presented to their club.
