The 2021 NFNL Netball Teams of the Year have been selected for Sections 1-3.

The NFNL Teams of the Year are selected based on the following criteria:

• Nominations submitted by all head coaches within each section. The nominations are submitted at the conclusion of the home and away season and coaches must select a player for each position on the court.

• Best and Fairest votes

The NFNL congratulates all players and coaches who have been selected in each of the three teams.

SECTION 1

North Heidelberg 1 has a competition-high four players represented in the 2021 Section 1 Team of the Year.

Paris Bosschieter was selected at goal shooter after shooting 281 goals this season. Olivia Ellis was picked at wing defence after a third-place finish in the best and fairest, while Stephanie Calabrese and Chloe Lambert were also selected.

Diamond Creek superstar Stacey Gannon was named at goal attack after claiming the Section 1 best and fairest for a record fifth time. Gannon was selected alongside teammate Bronwyn Taylor.

North Heidelberg 3 teammates Georgia Alexander and Alexis Lieschke were both included in the team after finishing tied runners-up for the best and fairest, while Abbie Barnes of North Heidelberg 2 is her team’s sole representative.

Fitzroy Stars defender Leah Seeto was recognised for her outstanding campaign with a spot on court.

It was a remarkable season both on the netball court and football field for Seeto, who also featured in the Mirvac Division 3 Women’s Team of the Year announced earlier this month.

Brooke George was named coach after guiding Diamond Creek 1 to the minor premiership.

SECTION 2

In a season where just one game separated the first-placed side on the ladder from fifth, the top-five teams are all represented in the 2021 Section 2 Team of the Year.

Minor premier Ivanhoe 1 has three players picked in the team, as well as coach Julie Hibberd.

Teen sensation Chelsea Jones of North Heidelberg 5 was named at wing attack. The 15-year-old was the runaway winner of the best and fairest, finishing six votes clear of her closest rival.

Her teammate Kate Ditcham was also selected in the Team of the Year after winning the leading goal shooter award.

Montmorency’s Shannon Tresider was named at goal keeper following another sensational season that saw her finish third in the best and fairest, having won the award in 2019.

SECTION 3

Seven clubs have a representative in the 2021 Section 3 Team of the Year.

Minor premier Whittlesea 1 has two players selected, with Daina Peet and Rachel Kemp both named after finishing second and third respectively in the best and fairest.

Meanwhile, Mandy Carter was named coach after guiding the Eagles to a first-place finish on the ladder.

Greensborough 2 and Ivanhoe 2 both have two representatives following top-four finishes.

Greensborough’s Mia Sannholm was selected at goal shooter after putting through more goals than any player in competition.

Section 3 best and fairest Caitlin Ryan was selected at goal defence, capping a sensational season which saw her become the first Panton Hill player to win an NFNL netball best and fairest.
