Falcons stars chosen in High Performance Academy

Dal Pos, who is now assistant coach of the Darebin Falcons Youth Girls team, finished third in the Youth Girls best and fairest award last year.

Unfortunately Hart will only participate in part of the program after injuring her knee while representing the Northern Football League in an interleague game in June.

Meanwhile, two of Hart’s teammates – Rechelle McSwain and Bonnie Griffiths – have been chosen to participate in the School Sport Australia Girls 16 years and under championships in Adelaide from 21 – 29 July.

As a part of the AFL’s Women’s Round festivities, the AFL’s Women’s High Performance Academy will be conducting a program in Melbourne throughout the week. The Academy involves 50 participants comprising of players, coaches, an umpire, strength and conditioning professionals and talent & coaching managers. Victoria has 13 participants representing the state during the seven day camp.

The week is organised to enhance all aspects of football and the skills required, whether that is on field performance, off-field groundwork, coaching or umpiring.

Participating players will be taken through various skill sessions including kicking, running, agility, second efforts, stoppages, ground positioning and aerial work.

These activities will be taught by experts, coaches and current or former AFL players such as Brad Green, Matthew Bate, Peter Schwab, Chris Johnson, Kevin Sheehan, Brad Johnson, Chris Scott, Brad Scott and Steve Teakel.

The Women’s High Performance Academy takes a broad approach to the topic of football and will be educating participants in all aspects of the game.

Individuals will be informed of the importance of off-field preparation and prevention as a key aspect of their training routine. They will be educated in Self Massage, Nutrition & Hydration, Injury Prevention, and Strength & Conditioning from a team of qualified Doctors and specialists.

Further off-field training will take place in areas including Decision Making, Game Analysis, Video Analysis, Mental Toughness, Mentoring Workshops and Role Model Workshops.

The two highest qualified female coaches in Australia have been selected in the Academy. Level 3 coaches Peta Searle and Nicole Graves will be provided with the opportunity to shadow AFL coaches such as Nathan Buckley of the Collingwood Football Club during Women’s Round.

All participants will be taking part in an Exhibition Match at Visy Park on Saturday, July 21. The group will be split into two teams, with one to be coached by Searle and the other by Graves.

The Exhibition Match will be live streamed on the AFL website on Saturday from 10am Opens external link in new windowwww.afl.com.au/hpa and also shown at halftime of several AFL games across the weekend.

2011 brought about a 29 percent increase in female participation, highlighting the significance that it holds in the AFL market. Records show that there are now 94,400 female players, 700 female umpires and 1500 accredited female coaches.

The Women’s High Performance Academy is structured to assist in the overall increase of participation by highlighting elite pathways and developing influential role models.
