Creekers find form nearing finals

And it wasn’t just the cheering being done on the sidelines.

The talk on court and encouraging of each team member’s efforts was the catalyst of a major boost of hearty team morale and an inspired injection of self-confidence.

It’s one of the reasons why this Creekers side finds itself in a well-positioned place for a successful finals campaign. The side finished the home and away season in third place and, coincidentally, will take on Bundoora again in this week’s first semi final.

The Comets were graceful in defeat. Whilst their skill and pace was evident, their finishing and polish around court was not quite up to Diamond Creek’s standard.

The Comets have enjoyed an up-and-down season yet still comfortably held on for a finals place, ahead of Greensborough.

Despite suffering a defeat on Friday night, there were many positives to draw out of the match and as we know, hindsight is a beautiful thing. A few stray passes, some lucky rebounds and a couple more intercepts and we might be singing a different tune.

Alas, we are not. Because when the going got tough, the girls from the Creek dug deep to find a little extra. The goal attack was met with good service from the pacey midcourters, who were on the end of some spectacular plays from defence.

It’s hard to give the credit to any specific unit on court given the overall effort from each player contributed to the win.

Despite the 11-goal difference in the final score line, the game was a great showcase of how promising this NFL netball league is.

There is a lot of talent to speak for and teams pushing for September success are delivering outstanding competition. Stick it on the highlights reel I say!

The Creekers team are the dark horse in this year’s finals campaign. They will go in with alluring odds but sport quite the personality and desire needed at the pointy end of the season.

That’s why they are my smokey for the final series. There is a bit of magic there, that when tapped in to, it can be quite special.

Final score: Diamond Creek Blue (34) defeated Bundoora Comets (23)
