NFNL Administration and Netball Manager Delwyn Berry was today presented the inaugural Women of Achievement Award at the MSE AFLW Grand Final Eve Luncheon.

The Women of Achievement Award recognises the significant contribution of a female in the international, local or domestic sporting sector.

Berry received the award in front of a crowd that included a host of influential sporting personalities at St Kilda’s Encore.

Berry has been involved in football as an administrator and volunteer for the past 26 years and her contribution to sport in the northern suburbs of Melbourne has been outstanding.

Her involvement began as secretary of Lalor Stars Junior Football Club – a position she held from 1992 to 1998.

From there she moved to become secretary of Mernda Football Club, where she served for eight seasons.

In 2006 Berry started working full-time for the Diamond Valley Football League, now known as the Northern Football Netball League, and has remained with the league for more than a decade.

Berry has overseen the introduction and management of the league’s netball arm, in addition to her role in administration.

As netball manager, she has helped the netball competition grow from nine teams in 2008 to 93 teams in 2017.

NFNL chief executive Peter McDougall said he could not think of a worthier winner of the Women of Achievement Award.

“This award is great recognition of Delwyn’s outstanding contribution to football and netball,” McDougall said.

“Delwyn has been a dedicated and tireless worker for the league for the past 12 years and she is greatly appreciated by all those she works with, as well as by everyone involved in the league.

“On behalf of everyone involve with the NFNL, I congratulate Delwyn on winning the Women of Achievement Award and thank her for her positive contribution to the league.”

A mother of five children, Berry has also been an active supporter of her children’s sporting pursuits.

Her youngest child, Deanna, plays for the Western Bulldogs and will tomorrow play in the AFLW Grand Final against the Brisbane Lions at Ikon Park.
