John Anderson has been appointed to the Board of the Northern Football Netball League.

Anderson was officially elected at last night’s Board meeting. He will fill the position left vacant by Steve Sampson – who stood down after two years on the Board.

Anderson brings a distinguished sporting and professional background, with 20 years’ experience as CEO of several high-profile national sporting bodies.

He most recently served as AFL South East’s Region General Manager, where he oversaw senior and junior community football across South East Melbourne.

The appointment followed a 12-year term as Chief Executive Officer at Harness Racing Victoria.

Anderson also served as Chief Executive Officer at Melbourne Football Club between 1998 to 2002, having previously held the position of General Manager at Essendon Football Club for three years.

He has also held senior positions with Olympic Park Management and IMG.

Anderson has completed both a Bachelor of Economics (major in Accounting) and Diploma of Education and is a member of the Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

A father of four, Anderson also has a strong passion for cricket and represented Victoria at Sheffield Shield level on four occasions.

NFNL Chairman Scott Walker said Anderson was a welcome addition to the Board.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome John as a Director of the NFNL Board,” Walker said.

“With his wealth of knowledge and experience within both elite and community sport, he will be a great asset to the NFNL and our member clubs.

“In welcoming John, I also wish to thank Steve Sampson for his valuable contribution to the NFNL Board over the past two years.”
