A look back at the weekend’s junior results as teams took to the field for Round 3 of the 2017 Northern Football League junior season.

Montmorency remains undefeated in the Under-18 Girls competition, defeating Darebin by 17 points at A.H. Capp Reserve. Greensborough made it two wins in a trot when they easily accounted for Hurstbridge, holding the Bridges to just one goal. South Morang also recorded a convincing win, continuing their unbeaten run as they kept Wallan to just one behind. Yarrambat were the other winners of the round, also recording a big win as they accounted for Eltham.

The Under-17 Blue competition saw South Morang make it two wins from their two matches, getting the jump in the first quarter against Eltham to eventually record a 35-point win at Mill Park Lakes Reserve. It was fairly smooth sailing for the remainder of the competition, with Greensborough and Montmorency each registering comfortable wins over Mernda and Laurimar respectively.

Research came from behind in the Under-17 Red competition to defeat West Preston-Lakeside by 12 points at J.E. Moore Park. Trailing by 3 points at the final break, the Searchers kicked four goals to two to streak ahead in the final term and be the only undefeated side remaining in the competition. Hurstbridge bounced back with a dominant win over Mill Park whilst Kilmore also recorded a win over Eltham Red.

Greensborough registered their second win of the season, coming from behind to defeat Montmorency in the Under-16 Blue competition. Trailing by 11 points at half-time, the Boro rallied in the third term to lead by 4 points at three-quarter time, before holding on in the final term to register a 7-point win. The other winners for the round were South Morang and Mill Park who defeated Yarrambat and Mernda respectively.

Diamond Creek remain undefeated in the Under-16 Red competition, defeating Research by 9 points thanks to a strong final term. The Creekers trailed by a point at the final change, but they were able to outscore the Searchers by three goals to one in the final term to come from behind and keep their unbeaten run alive, consequently ending Research’s unbeaten streak. Eltham also made it three from three with a big win over Thomastown, whilst Wallan also recorded a win, defeated Whittlesea by 28-points in a see-sawing affair.

The Under-16 Girls competition saw Laurimar continue their winning form, defeating West Preston-Lakeside by just 4 points at Laurimar Reserve. The Power didn’t have it easy, however, with the Roosters keeping them scoreless to their 1 goal in the final term but that ultimately wasn’t enough to pull off a come-from-behind win. Whittlesea produced a strong final term to streak ahead of Diamond Creek Women’s. With the Eagles held scoreless in the third term but still ahead by 3 points, they were able to do the same to the Creekers in the last to runaway 17-point winners. That was as close as it got for the rest of the competition as Montmorency, Laurimar and West Preston-Lakeside all posted comfortable wins.

Mill Park and Research remain unbeaten in the Under-15 Blue competition, each making it three from three with comfortable wins over Diamond Creek and West Preston-Lakeside respectively. Montmorency also recorded a win, defeating South Morang by 11-points at Mill Park Lakes Reserve despite a scoreless final quarter. Montmorency, Mernda and Eltham also posted comprehensive victories.

Bundoora Park made it two wins from their two matches in the Under-15 Red competition, streaking ahead of Kilmore in the final term to win by 20-points. Trailing at quarter-time, the Bolts fought back in the second term to lead it by 23 points, before the Blues hit right back in the third term to have both sides level heading into the final term. The Bolts then went on to kick five goals to two in that final term to register their second win of the season and remain undefeated. Yarrambat were the other winners of the round, accounting for Hurstbridge.
