Knights announce 2014 squad

The Northern Knights announced their squad for the upcoming TAC Cup season at their 2014 Season Launch and Guernsey Presentation Night.

A crowd of over 150 people were in attendance as the Knights announced their squad at The Grandstand Function Room at Preston City Oval.

The squad of 47 players includes 28 players from the Northern Football League.

They are: Josh Iacobaccio, Jayden Short (Bundoora); Jacob Booth, Darcy Macpherson (Diamond Creek); Lewis Glasgow, Liam Hunt, James Marchbank, Chris McCabe (Eltham); Jackson Freebairn (Epping); Kain Proctor (Fitzroy Stars); Bailey Jordan (Heidelberg); Lachlan East, Daniel Jarvis (Hurstbridge); Anthony Di Paulo (Lower Plenty); Damandeep Aujla (Mill Park); Connor Dalgleish (Montmorency); Cameron Conlon (North Heidelberg);Thomas Bevan-Shannon, Brayden Fiorini, Nicholas Mackay, Kieran Malone, Samuel Switkowski (Research); Jade Gresham, Benjamin Nesci (South Morang); Garrett McDonagh (West Preston-Lakeside); Sam Peet, Clark Sloan (Whittlesea) and James El Moussalli (Yarrambat)

The club also announced its leadership group for the upcoming season. They include:

Captain: Josh Iacobaccio

Vice Captains: Zac Ballard, Jordan Perry and Sam Switkowski

Leadership Group: Jade Gresham, Darcy Macpherson, Sam Peet and Jayden Short

New coach Andrew Shakespeare gave his thoughts on the squad’s pre-season, which started in November 2013 with a four-week block of training prior to Christmas, including a training camp at Camp Wyuna, Queenscliff.

The Knights returned in mid-January for another four-week block of training, before commencing practice matches and the TAC Cup Fitness Testing Day held over the Labour Day long weekend.

Shakespeare finished his address by stressing the importance of continual improvement in all areas, as the Northern Knights enter their 23rd TAC Cup season.

The Knights were pleased to welcome back former players and first round draft picks Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs), Ben Lennon (Richmond) and Nick Vlastuin (Richmond) to present the squad with their jumpers and share their experiences in the AFL environment so far.
