MC Labour Division 2 Preview – Round 12

After last weekend’s thrilling games, another intriguing set of games are set to take place this weekend in MC Labour Division 2.

St Mary’s are ready to face off with Northcote Park this upcoming Saturday at Whatmough Park.

Back in round 6, St Mary’s faced Northcote Park for the first time this season, managing to defeat the Cougars by 23 points.

St Mary’s are currently sitting 12 points above the Cougars on the ladder and aim to only climb up higher and are currently on five-game winning streak.

Jack Cictta sits second on the ladder for the seasons best goal kicker, scoring 33 goals in 11 games, 10 of which against Lower Plenty recently. He also received a coaches MVP for last week’s game after kicking four goals.

William Dean, Ty Kitchell, Tane Cotter, Connor Kissane, and Dominic Akuei also received coaches MVP awards for St Mary’s last weekend in their win over Watsonia at home.

As for Northcote Park, although they went down to the Old Paradians in round 10, they came back stronger last weekend with a 55-point win against Panton Hill.

Jacob Thompson has had a strong impact this season for the cougars, kicking 18 goals, 7 of which came from his game back in round 5 against Watsonia.

Jye Stevens also had a great performance for Northcote, kicking three goals and receiving six coaches MVP votes.

Ben Reddick, who was one of their best players in last weekend’s game also received 10 coaches MVP votes.

With both teams coming off strong wins last weekend, this game is one not to miss, as both teams have been putting up a strong fight.

Lower Plenty will look to move on from three consecutive losses as they prepare to face Whittlesea at Montmorency Park South Oval.

Riley Alexander has had a massive impact this season for Lower Plenty sitting in the top 5 goal kickers of the season, with 28 goals in 11 games. This includes a five goal haul in last weekend’s loss for the Bears against Diamond Creek.

Billy Reardon, Ben Smith, Jasper Collins, as well as Alexander, all received Coaches MVP votes for last weeks game.

As for Whittlesea, they’re sitting in the top three on the ladder, Lower Plenty sitting three spots below them in sixth place.

Lucas Hobbs and Jaron Murphy are two of Whittlesea’s top goal kickers of the season, and they’ve both been playing exceptionally well, alongside with Taidhg Bland and Liam Tyrell.

The last time these two teams faced, was back in round 3 where Whittlesea took the win by 34 points. Garry Ramsay’s men are yet to lose a game to the Bears since their return to Division 2 last year.

A.E. Cracknell Reserve will host Thomastown and Panton Hill in another long-awaited game.

The two teams sit neck-and-neck with 12 points each on the ladder, divided solely by percentage

They both faced a defeat against two strong teams last weekend and will look to put up a strong performance this weekend as they fight to move to a position where they can challenge for finals.

For the Bears it was Julian Janev and Charbel Khoury who both stepped up to the plate in their loss last weekend to Macleod.

Two of Thomastown’s players are sitting in the top 10 of the highest goal kickers of the season, Kyle Green with 19 goals in 11 games and James Lucente with 18 goals in 11 games.

Riley Cousins, Riley Livingstone, Nicholas Parks, Matt Christopoulous, Mitch Buckley and Jesse Owns Draper were Panton Hill’s best players for last weekend’s game.

Cousins, Livingstone and Parks all received coaches votes in their loss last weekend, with Livingstone and Parks two of the Redbacks primary MVP vote getters this season.

Simon Amore’s men claimed what at the time was a shock 16-point victory over Thomastown in Round 1 at Main Street.

After conceding the first five goals of the game the Redbacks then kicked 10 of the last 13 goals to claim the victory away from home.

Macleod aim to keep their spot at the top of the ladder as they face the Old Paradians at De Winton Park.

Macleod have given it their all on their home ground this season. They have consistently kept winning all their games with only one loss back in round one against Diamond Creek.

Darcy Barden has made an exceptional impact for Macleod, being their highest goal kicker of the season, with a total of 61 goals across 11 games. He is also the leading the Coaches MVP Award.

Brad Leggett, Kobe Brandt, Gabriel Narkiewicz, Luke Joyce, Kurt Manuel also received coaches MVP votes for Macleod last round whilst Michael Hurley kicked four goals in his first game for the Roos since round six.

The Old Paradians are in the bottom three of the ladder, however they’ve still been playing well, despite some of the losses they’ve had, they aim to come back stronger for this upcoming game.

Lachie Kerr is one of the top goal kickers for the Old Paradians with 15 goals in 11 games. It was Blair Healy though that stepped up in attack last weekend for the Raiders, kicking three of Old Paradians four goals in their 54-point loss against Whittlesea.

Both teams faced each other for the first time in their history back in round four, with Macleod claiming a 95-point victory win at the Garvey Oval.

Diamond Creek faces Watsonia this weekend at Coventry Oval.

After last week’s win for Diamond Creek against Lower Plenty, they only aim to continue to climb higher on the ladder.

Some of Diamond Creek’s strongest players are Ben Major and Jacob Booth, who both have received coaches MVP votes in their win last Saturday, alongside Dale Marshall and Kade Garraway. Jacob Booth also sits second in the Division 2 Coaches MVP Award.

Bronson Hill is also a strong player for the Creekers. He currently sits in the top 10 highest goal kickers, with 19 goals across 11 games.

The Creekers currently sit second whereas the Saints are sitting at the bottom of the ladder.

Watsonia have gone down in their last three games and remain with just the one win so far this season.

Ethan Lowe has made a major impact for Watsonia, being their highest goal kicker with 24 goals across 11 games. However, he’s been held goalless the past two rounds after bags of seven and four in rounds eight and nine.

Thomas Jackson, Ben Callaghan, Luke Whyte, Jack Murphy, Adrian Saccauzzo and James Charbel were some of Watsonia’s best players last round while James Charbel kicked the most goals for Watsonia last weekend.

Back in round four both teams faced each other for the first time this season at Binnak Park. The Creekers took the win by 72 points, scoring 15.10 (100) to Watsonia’s 4.4 (28)/
