The Board of the Northern Football Netball League appointed Michael McLellan as Chairman of the NFNL at the February Board Meeting.

McLellan’s appointment follows the decision by former Chairman Dean Philpots to step down from the Board after serving for 11 years – including the past five as Chairman.

McLellan said he was honoured to accept the Chairman’s role.

“It’s an extremely big honour. It’s a league full of rich history,” McLellan said.

“Dean certainly did a fantastic job over 11 years and is certainly a well-respected person within the Northern Football Netball League community. His knowledge of not only the League, but also our clubs, is second to none.

“They are going to be big shoes to fill and something I am looking forward to.”

McLellan said he was looking forward to working closely with clubs and stakeholders and was focused on maintaining the League’s status as a leader in the inclusion of female participation.

“The progression we have seen with women’s football and sport nationally, and for us in the Northern region, is just incredible.

“To be able to have two junior girls’ representative teams and also the senior women’s side playing representative football this year, plus the netballers, will be great to be able to showcase our league and what we have to offer.

“It’s a really exciting time.”

McLellan joined the Board of the then NFL in 2016.

He has a successful sales background, having served in general management and sales management positions within the telecommunications industry for more than 25 years.

McLellan has extensive football experience within the NFNL, having previously served as President of the Eltham Junior Football Club.

Among his achievements during his presidency was the establishment of junior girls’ football teams.

He has also served as Eltham’s Vice-President, Football Operations Manager, Tribunal Advocate and has sat on the club’s general committee.

McLellan is also an avid cricket follower and played District and Sub-District cricket for more than 15 years.

He will be assisted in his position by Scott Walker, who has been appointed as Vice-Chairman.

Walker is a qualified town planner who has worked in a range of senior jobs within councils. He currently serves as Director of City Development at Banyule Council.

Nicolina Lademann, Bronwyn Neeson, Jeff Parkes, Diana Pettie and Stella Pruscino will make up the remainder of the NFNL Board.
