The Northern Netball League has named its representative squad ahead of its clash with the Eastern Football League on Friday May 12.

The NNL has named a 24-player squad ahead of the open and under-19 matches against the EFL at Parade College.

Following two trial sessions, the league has named a combined squad, paving the way for a number of under-19 rising stars to remain in contention for selection in the open team.

Eight clubs are represented in the squad, with powerhouse Diamond Creek leading the charge with 11 players selected.

NNL head coach Brooke George, who will work alongside open coach Jacinta Tonkin and under-19 coach Sharon Ashworth, was pleased with the squad that had been assembled.

“We think that we’ve got a really balanced squad,” George told

“A lot of players there are able to play in more than one position, so it is handy particularly in these rep games when you don’t know what you’re going to be faced with.

“Our under-19 mid-court is phenomenal at the moment. There were so many good players available for selection.

“Where we thought there might be an area in the open team that we might not have depth, or if there is an injury, our squad as a whole are able to fill those gaps.

“It’s great to see representation from so many clubs. The league is getting bigger and stronger and it is getting really tough to pick the rep side, but it makes it easier to coach the squad on match day because we have such great talent.”

The representative squad will train twice ahead of the May 12 showdown, with a dress presentation evening to be held in the week of the matches.

George said she was a hopeful a big crowd would be on hand to support the NNL as it looks to maintain its unbeaten record at representative level.

“The fact that we’re hosting it again, we’re really hoping to get all clubs, players and officials down to support the teams,” she said.

“In a close game, that support can be the difference. We look forward to seeing as many people at the games as we can get.”
