THE NFL Match of the Day took out the Best Radio Coverage – Match Day award at the AFL Victoria 2016 Community Media Awards.

One of eight broadcasts shortlisted, the NFL’s radio team claimed the award at an event hosted at Ikon Park last Friday.

Hosted by Jordan Kounelis, Samuel Zito, Dan Campbell and Tom Flanagan, the NFL’s radio broadcast airs on 88.6 Plenty Valley FM every Saturday of the football season, and on Sundays during the finals series.

The broadcast is also streamed via the NFL website and TeamApp.

In accepting the award, NFL media manager Samuel Zito thanked the show’s dedicated members for their efforts throughout the season.

“The ability to provide a high-quality radio broadcast each week is dependent on the dedication and hard work of our media volunteers,” he said.

“The commitment shown by Jordan Kounelis, Dan Campbell and Tom Flanagan makes our radio broadcast one of the leaders in local football.

“The hours the team invests researching and preparing for the radio broadcast is evident in the accuracy and insightfulness of the broadcast.

“They deliver the call in a professional manner and overcome the obstacles experienced at grassroots level when the broadcast location is not always ideal.”

The coverage commences at 1pm each Saturday and begins with the hour-long NFL Preview Show.

During the preview show the broadcast team discuss all 12 upcoming senior matches and conduct interviews with the senior coaches from the upcoming broadcast game.

From 2pm to 4:30pm the commentary team delivers an accurate play-by-play call of all the action, as well as regular crosses to the boundary rider for injury updates and interviews with senior coaches.

Live scores from around the grounds are also provided at regular intervals.

The NFL Review Show begins once the final siren has sounded.

The review includes an interview with the player adjudged the Midas Greensborough Player of the Day by the commentary team. Final results from around the grounds are also announced, along with live ladders.

The broadcast match is shared equally among all three senior divisions in the NFL.

The NFL congratulates the radio team on winning the award and also extends its thanks to 88.6 Plenty Valley FM program manager Roly Sims and football producer Tyrell Mills.

The league had a total of five nominations in the 2016 AFL Victoria Community Media Awards.

We commend all our reporters, photographers and broadcasters who were shortlisted for an award and thank our entire media team for their outstanding coverage throughout the 2016 season.
