The Northern Football Netball League has been shortlisted in four categories at the 2019 AFL Victoria Community Media Awards.

The NFNL is among the finalists in the following categories:

Best Print/Online Feature Story – ‘Moorcroft calls time on decorated career’ – Nicholas Sacco

• Best Photograph (Action) – ‘Big ride’ – Nathan McNeill

• Best Radio Match Day Coverage – NFNL Match of the Day

Best Football Column – ‘NFNL Division 1 Preview’ – Samuel Zito

NFNL reporter Nicholas Sacco was nominated for the article Moorcroft calls time on decorated career, a feature piece that was published on the NFNL website in the lead-up to Gary Moorcroft’s final game for Bundoora.

The piece provided great insight into Moorcroft’s playing time with the Bulls, which was highlighted by winning three Division 1 premierships and twice topping the goal kicking table.

As well as delving into Moorcroft’s on-field highlights, the feature piece also detailed the factors behind his durability, as well his experiences playing senior football with son Beau and coaching daughter Chloe to a premiership in the club’s inaugural women’s campaign.

The NFNL Match of the Day, which airs on 88. Plenty Valley FM, was again shortlisted after another outstanding year on the radio airwaves, while Samuel Zito was nominated for Best Football Column for the weekly Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 Preview.

NFNL photographer Nathan McNeill, from Nathan William Media, will be looking to defend his Best Photograph (Action) title after winning the award in 2018.

Nathan captured all the action from the football field and netball courts again in 2019 and is this year shortlisted for his image of Heidelberg forward Christian Buykx-Smith’s huge mark during the Tigers’ ANZAC Day win over Macleod.

The Northern Football Netball League congratulates all those nominated in the 2019 AFL Victoria Community Media Awards and thanks its entire media team for its outstanding coverage and dedication to the league throughout the season.

The 2019 AFL Victoria Community Media Awards will be held on Friday December 6.
