The NFNL has announced its under-19 football team for its representative clash against the MPNFL this Saturday.

The team will take on the best from the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League from 10:00am at Preston City Oval.

The 26-player squad contains representatives from 15 different clubs within the Northern Football Netball League.

No members in the team have previously represented the NFNL at under-19 level.

The NFNL congratulates all players selected in the team and thanks all those who have trained with the squad in recent weeks.

The team will train at Epping Recreation Reserve at 5:30pm on Thursday May 10, ahead of Saturday’s game.

Prior to assembling the final team, NFNL under-19 representative coach Rod Cann told NFNL.org.au that this year’s crop was as impressive as any squad that had been assembled.

Cann said he was impressed with the squad that had been assembled.

“We’ve got guys who have been playing in all grades. Some of the guys have been playing in the seniors this year, some in reserves and some in the under-19s,” he said.

“It’s going to be exciting for us to see some new blood coming through and seeing what’s around the league.

“I think the under-19s competition has gotten a little bit stronger this year with the number of sides that are running around and the addition of a couple of teams.”

The NFNL’s under-19 representative team was an 85-point winner over the MPNFL in 2016, before last year losing to the WRFL by three points.

The NFNL’s senior men’s and women’s football teams will be announced on Thursday.
