NFNL Update – 2021 Junior Football Season

Published on Monday, July 26, 2021

The NFNL wishes to provide an update on the 2021 NFNL junior football season.

In consultation with all NFNL clubs who field junior football teams, the NFNL has made the following determinations regarding the 2021 junior football season.

• Should competition resume by August 22, the last two home and away rounds of the 2021 season will be played in all junior competitions. This will be followed by the scheduled two-week finals series for competitions under-11s and above.

Please see the below scenarios, one of which will now be enacted depending on when we are able to resume competition again:

August 1 start

August 1 – Round 14; August 8 – Round 15; August 15 – Semi finals (1st vs 4th, 2nd vs 3rd); August 22 – Grand final

August 8 start

August 8 – Round 14; August 15 – Round 15; August 22 – Semi finals (1st vs 4th, 2nd vs 3rd); August 29 – Grand final

August 15 start

August 15 – Round 14; August 22 – Round 15; August 29 – Semi finals (1st vs 4th, 2nd vs 3rd);
September 5 – Grand final

August 22 start

August 22 – Round 14; August 29 – Round 15; September 5 – Semi finals (1st vs 4th, 2nd vs 3rd);
September 12 – Grand final

If we are unable to restart by August 22 then we will lose a week with each week that passes, as we are not able to play the junior grand finals any later than September 12.

In this scenario, please see below the fixture amendments that will take place:

August 29 start

August 29 – Round 14; September 5 – Round 15; September 12 – Grand final (1st vs 2nd)

September 5 start

September 5 – Round 15; September 12 – Grand final (1st vs 2nd). Please note: All other teams would also play in a match scheduled on September 12 to allow all teams to play an extra match.

September 12 start

September 12 – Grand final (1st vs 2nd). Please note: All other teams would also play in a match scheduled on September 12 to allow all teams to play an extra match.

The NFNL thanks all clubs, players, parents and officials for your patience and co-operation throughout the 2021 season.

We will continue to closely monitor the advice from the Government and relevant authorities and hope to return to the field as soon as possible.
