West Preston-Lakeside produced a clinical performance to down Bundoora by 53 points and move into second place on the Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 ladder after six rounds.
The Roosters led from start to finish, dominating the Bulls in every facet of the game in their 14.12 (96) to 5.13 (43) win at J.E. Moore Park.
Joel McDonald, Josh Novelli and Sam Glover led the charge for the Roosters as they notched their first home win of season, while Liam McVeigh kicked a game-high four goals a week after earning his first NFNL representative jumper.
Scott Dowell was Bundoora’s best player for the second-straight week, with he, Joe Palazzolo and Daniel Guccione trying hard on a tough day for their team.
Early on it was all West Preston-Lakeside, as the home side piled on the opening four goals of the game to open a 28-point advantage midway through the first term.
Bundoora finally got a breakthrough goal through Brodric Gray, who nailed his kick after 20 minutes of play to get the visitors on the board.
A goal exchange saw out the end of the first quarter with the Roosters ahead by 31 points. Peter Hood’s shot on the quarter-time siren summed up the Bulls’ first term, with the sharpshooter’s shot at goal failing to register a score.
Bundoora started the second term the better, however they reigning premier was unable to capitalise on the scoring opportunities created.
The Bulls were made to pay for their inability to hit the scoreboard, as James Tadd got the breakthrough goal against the run of play for the Roosters after 15 minutes
Liam Byrne replied for the Bulls close to 10 minutes later, giving the visitors a much-needed goal, however Luke Lirosi hit back almost immediately for West Preston-Lakeside, taking the margin back out to 33 points.
However, Daniel Guccione was able to redeem Peter Hood’s misfire at the conclusion of the first term, as he nailed his set shot after the half time siren to bring the margin back to a more respectable 27 points.
Any hope of the Bulls gaining some momentum from Guccione’s goal was wiped from the outset of the third term, with Liam McVeigh’s second major sparking his side to kick the next five goals of the quarter to blow the lead out to 57 points.
McVeigh kicked three of the five goals in a third-quarter purple patch for the young key forward.
Dominic Nixon was able to get a consolation goal for the Bulls on the three-quarter time siren, as he nailed his shot to pull the margin back to 50 points.
Nixon then goaled early in the fourth term to give his side a small glimmer of hope, but as the ball moved from end-to-end, the Roosters got on the end of two final goals through Patrick Karnezis to run out 56-point victors.
West Preston-Lakeside faces a massive match in Round 7 when it travels to War Memorial Park to take on third-placed Greensborough. Bundoora will be looking for an improved showing when it hosts ladder-leader Macleod at Yulong Reserve.
