Thomastown driving Towards Zero

Thomastown Football Club is supporting TAC journey Towards Zero this weekend, with its home match against Epping set to shine a light on road safety issues in the community amidst the state’s horrific road toll.

Another five lives were lost on Victorian roads over the weekend, taking the total death toll in 2019 to 128 – up 54% on the same time last year.

The Bears will host a TAC activation in conjunction with the match as they seek to make a stand and encourage drivers to start making safer decisions on the road.

Club treasurer Alex Vinar said that everyone at the club is committed to taking the lead in the community and ensuring the figure doesn’t continue to climb.

“We want to use this day as a way to start a conversation in our area and keep our fantastic community safe, and I’m really excited about the activities we are going to run,” he said.

“We as a club are determined to make a difference. The fact we aren’t even half way through the football season and there are 128 people who didn’t make it home already is a tragedy and can’t simply be glossed over as just another a statistic.

“That is 128 mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, teammates, coaches who should still be here but sadly aren’t.

“We all need to take it upon ourselves to make sure that the figure doesn’t continue to climb, and we are going to be doing everything we can around the club to keep each other safe.”

The day will see a TAC marquee at the ground with giveaways, prizes and kids activities, as well as key road safety information and breath testing available for adults.
