Tiger time for NFNL alumni

Richmond has named its team for the 2020 AFL Grand Final, with six NFNL alumni in the selected 22 to take on Geelong.

Trent Cotchin (West Preston-Lakeside and Reservoir) will lead a Tigers line-up that will also include Dylan Grimes (Hurstbridge), Nick Vlastuin (Eltham), Jayden Short (Mill Park and Bundoora), Dion Prestia (West Lalor) and Kane Lambert (West Preston-Lakeside).

Josh Caddy (Eltham) has been named as an emergency.

Derek Eggmolesse-Smith (Fitzroy Stars) has not been included in the squad but has contributed to the Tigers’ grand final charge – featuring in six matches throughout the 2020 season.

Richmond will be aiming to win its 13th premiership and is looking to claim back-to-back flags for the first since its 1973-74 triumphs.

Seven NFNL alumni were part of the Tigers’ side that thrashed GWS by 89 points in last year’s premiership decider. They were Cotchin, Grimes, Vlastuin, Short, Prestia, Lambert and Caddy.

Cotchin will become Richmond’s first triple-premiership captain if the Tigers are victorious in Saturday night’s grand final at the GABBA.

He currently sits with Royce Hart, Percy Bentley and Dan Minogue as the club’s two-time premiership captains.
