With the first bounce of the Northpark NFLW competition only days away, Whitehorse 2 is stepping up its preparations for the opening match against West Preston-Lakeside.

The Colts and Roosters will make history on Saturday when they play the inaugural NFL senior women’s match at J.E Moore Park from 4:15pm.

The coach of Whitehorse 2, Roy Fenton, is happy with the way the pre-season has been tracking and believes his team is on the right path after a heartbreaking four-point semi-final loss to Darebin in Division 1 of the VWFL in 2016.

“We’ve been very impressed with the numbers,” Fenton told NFL.org.au.

“Our pre-season has been going very well and our scratch match last week went to plan.”

Whitehorse now has its sights firmly set on this weekend’s match against West Preston-Lakeside.

“The girls are as keen as mustard to get out there. They’ve been training for quite a while now.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how everyone goes in an actual match against another side.”

Fenton is excited for the inaugural NFLW competition to begin and wants his team to be competitive every week.

“We won’t set a goal until we have seen where we stand at about Round 5 or 6 and then we can see how we go from there,” he said.

“At the moment the girls just want to get out onto the park and play.”

Whitehorse 2 will be playing in Division 2 of the Northpark NFLW competition against Diamond Creek 2, West Preston-Lakeside, VU Western Spurs 2, Kew 2, Latrobe Uni 2, South Morang, Montmorency, Darebin 2 and Laurimar.
