Football Umpiring

A registration link to umpire in 2022 will be posted on this page in early November.

We look forward to welcoming new male and female field, boundary and goal umpires for season 2022.

The minimum age to umpire is 14 years of age (or turning 14 during that season).

For those 18 years of age and older will require a valid Working with Children’s card.

The NFNL umpires train at CT Barling Reserve, Plenty Road, Reservoir (opposite Reservoir High School).

Satellite training venues at Eltham and Wallan will be confirmed later this year.

Pre-season training will commence mid-February 2022 with start dates to be confirmed later in the year and posted on this page.

NFNL umpires training is a welcoming and inclusive environment and involves physical training along with skills coaching.

We are currently updating our Online Store and once this is complete in November we will post the link here and you can start purchasing your new uniform for 2022.

Uniform orders can either be collected from La Trobe Sports Stadium, off Kingsbury Drive, Bundoora or taken to umpire training for collection.

The minimum requirements for each discipline are:

Field Umpire: 1 x on field short sleeve shirt, 1 x on field shorts, 1 x socks, , 1 x pair sweatbands, 1 x whistle

Boundary Umpire: 1 x on field short sleeve shirt, 1 x on field shorts, 1 x socks, , 1 x pair sweatbands, 1 x whistle

The NFNL umpires are paid monthly directly into your back account.

Rates vary dependent of the age group/level you umpire.

Umpiring is TAX FREE!!!

Some umpires do 2-4 games per weekend and earn over $200 per week.

The NFNL provide a large team of coaches, many with AFL/VFL experience.

The NFNL has a Development Field Umpire Squad who receive specialist coaching and training.

We also have AFL field, boundary and goal umpires attend training regularly.

NFNL umpires are promoted to an AFL Talent Academy each year where they receive specialist coaching from the AFL. Therefore, if you aspire to take your umpiring to higher levels the NFNL is the place to commence your umpiring.
