Interim determination by NFL

Published on Friday, June 8, 2012

As widely reported, a disturbing incident leading to the abandonment of an under-17 match between Lalor Bloods and Lalor Stars is under investigation by the Northern Football League.

Due to complexities surrounding the incident, the investigation is nearing conclusion with a full report to be presented early next week. However, the NFL has made an interim determination based on updates provided by the investigator.

It has been established that Lalor Stars JFC allowed players to take part in the match without appropriate registration and under the names of registered players.  A number of these players are at the centre of alleged offences. The practice evolved from a critical shortage of players and occurred without the knowledge of senior club officials.

As a result, the NFL has removed the Lalor Stars under-17 team from the competition for the remainder of the season. Further penalties and actions are still to be determined by the Board after the conclusion of the investigation.

Details of the structure of the under-17 competition following the removal of Lalor Stars will be distributed to competing clubs next week.
