Victorian Sports Minister Hugh Delahunty and Northern Metropolitan Region Member Craig Ondarchie were joined by City of Whittlesea Mayor Steven Kozmevski, Northern Football League CEO Jeremy Bourke and Laurimar sporting club members on Tuesday morning to announce funding for the project.

The State Government will put $100,000 into the development, with City of Whittlesea to add a further $840,000.

The new pavilion will include four change rooms, two umpires rooms, a storage room and a new shared administrative office and first aid room.

The funding is part of the Victorian Government and the AFL’s Country Football Netball Program which Mr Delahunty said would enable more people to be more active, more often.

“A key objective of the Coalition Government is to build healthy and active communities,” he said.

“Our investment in this project is part of our plan to build more sustainable local venues that make a difference to local people.

“Sporting facilities are important community assets and provide a social hub, particularly in outer suburban interface and regional areas.”

Laurimar is one of the fast growing areas in metropolitan Melbourne and it is anticipated that Laurimar Primary School will become one of the largest primary school in Victoria next year.

More than 200 new residents are moving to nearby Doreen each week, and there is potential for Laurimar to be the next senior team to register with the NFL in coming years, while the junior club has the scope to become one of the biggest in our competition.

Work on the new pavilion will begin early next year.
