Experienced duo land in the nest

Harrison will provide assistance for Eagles full forward Andrew Fairchild inside attacking 50m, while Saddington will add experience to the club’s young defence.

Whittlesea football manager Jarrad Carey said the duo would play important roles on and off the field for the Eagles.

“We recognise the enormous challenge that awaits us in Division 2 next season and we are rapt the two are on board,” he said.

“75 per cent of our senior players throughout 2012 were aged between 18 and 22-years old so there was a real need to bring in some more experienced blokes.

“We’re pretty confident that blokes like Harro and Saddo will really compliment the young guys that we’re working so hard to develop.”

Harrison joins the Eagles following a decorated career in Division 1.

In recent years he has been a best and fairest and leading goalkicker for Bundoora and was an important member of the Bulls’ 2011 premiership victory.

He has kicked 143 goals over the past three years and booted five goals in his final game in the top flight, that being Bundoora’s 20-point loss to eventual premier Northcote Park in the first semi final.

“Speaking to quite a few of the Bundoora boys, they can’t speak highly enough of his contribution on and off the field at the club and that’s what really excited us,” Carey said.

“We’re such a young and developing list that it is important that we brought in a few wise heads and Harro is really looking forward to the challenge of working with such a young group and acting as a mentor for a lot of the young developing players.”

Saddington led Violet Town to the Kyabram District Football League premiership this season and has previously played at Mernda.

His height and experience in defence will provide welcome assistance to youngsters Chris Horman and Luke Deards who performed admirably in key defensive posts this season.

“Saddo is an outstanding leader of men which is going to be a huge bonus particularly when we’ve got such a young defensive back six,” Carey said.

“We’ve already discussed with him what his likely role will be. He’ll probably be given the opportunity to come in as a third tall defender but obviously depending on match-up requirements he’ll find himself at full back and centre half back on occasions.”

Carey said the club is also working hard to ensure every player from the 2012 list is back on board next year.
