Webster announced VFL coach

Webster will continue his role as part of the Carlton development program as well as coaching the Northern Blues, a similar role to former coach Darren Harris who has returned to Western Australia.

Since joining Carlton at the end of 2010 as a development coach, he has worked closely with the Northern Blues for the past two seasons.

“I’m really excited about this opportunity, they are a really great group of guys to work with and after two years in a development role with Carlton, I am certain this position will really compliment my growth as a coach,” Webster said.

“I’ve been heavily involved with the Northern Blues throughout my time at Carlton and I am really looking forward to taking over the reins next season and hopefully we can continue to improve from where we left off this year.”

Webster played 33 AFL games for Fremantle between 2003 – 2008, however his career was prematurely cut short due to ongoing knee injuries.

Northern Blues General Manager Garry O’Sullivan said the club is thrilled to have a person of Webster’s calibre as its senior coach.

“We see it as a natural progression for Luke’s development to take the reigns as our senior coach,” he said.

“Luke has a great knowledge of our club and its culture and we fully support his appointment, in particular the combination of a development coach at Carlton and our senior coach.  The roles are similar and it proved successful in the second half of last season.

“The Carlton Football Club has been magnificent with its support of our club, providing outstanding coaches throughout our alignment and we are confident that Luke will continue the good work of those before him.”
