NFL accepts West Ivanhoe JFC

This acceptance will be required to be ratified by NFL member clubs at a special general meeting to be held on Monday, November 19.

The meeting will be held at Banyule Council’s recently opened Watermarc Aquatic Centre in Greensborough, with delegates to be given a guided tour of the facility at the conclusion of the meeting.

West Ivanhoe anticipates fielding two teams next season with an under-9s team already confirmed and either an under-10s or under-11s team to also take to the field.

NFL CEO Jeremy Bourke said West Ivanhoe’s introduction would further strengthen the League’s junior competition.

“The inclusion of West Ivanhoe is an opportunity to build on significant work undertaken by the league in rejuvenating junior football in that area,” he said.

“We have lost two junior clubs in recent times in that vicinity however interest in participation remains strong.

“Competing sports have taken advantage in what is traditionally a strong Australian Football area and this is evidenced by the impressive number of Auskick participants at the West Ivanhoe club.”

West Ivanhoe will be the fourth junior club to join the NFL within the past three years following the introduction of Laurimar and Bundoora Park in 2011 and Kinglake in 2012.

Its inclusion will bring the total number of junior clubs in the NFL to 25.
