MACLEOD’S annual beyondlue fundraiser will this year feature Lt Geoffrey Evans as guest speaker.

The Kangaroos will host the fundraiser when they meet West Preston-Lakeside at De Winton Park this Saturday.

He served 20 years in the Army as a Commando (including East Timor and Afghanistan) and in 2010 was injured when an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) detonated in close proximity to him.

He suffered a traumatic brain injury, a spinal injury and also suffers Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Lt Evans has been open about his struggle with PTSD and how it has affected his personal life and family.

He was involved in the inclusion of veteran’s issues in the National Report Card on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention 2013, and is a passionate advocate for improving mental health support for contemporary veterans.

The Steve Rowley Medal will be presented to the under-19s player who demonstrates fairness and good team play and the Awareness Cup will be presented to the winning senior team.

This year’s luncheon will be held from midday this Saturday at De Winton Park. Tickets cost $50 and include a two-course lunch and drinks. Bookings can be made through Leigh Moulden on 0401 418 342.
