The Northern Football League has had a superb start to the 2015 Junior Metropolitan Championships.

All five of the league’s junior representative sides were victorious in their opening pool matches last night.

The Under-15 Division 1 side recorded a 71-point win over Riddell District Football League at RAMS Arena. The win was set up in the opening quarter with the NFL boys kicking eight unanswered goals to take a 51-point lead into the first break. Brody Bell was named best with three goals, while Adrian Kalvovski booted four majors.

The Under-15 Division 2 side was equally impressive in victory, winning by 77 points over Riddell District Football League at RAMS Arena. The NFL recorded 32 scoring shots to five in the 13.19 (97) to 3.2 (20) result, with Nicolas Alekovski the highest goal kicker with four, while Bradley Hexter was named best.

Both Under-14 sides were also victorious over Riddell District Football League at Keon Park’s J.C. Donath Reserve.

The Under-14 Division 1 outfit claimed a 43-point win. Leading by 18 points at half time, the NFL broke the game open in the second half, kicking 5.5 to 2.1 after the main break. Tyler Wallace was best afield, while Sam Indian kicked a team-high three goals.

The Under-14 Division 2 team pulled off the league’s biggest win of the night with an 88-point triumph. A six-goal to nil first term gave the NFL a 45-point advantage at quarter-time, before extending the lead at every change. Cameron Wild was named the NFL’s best player, with Ethan Giann, Nickolas Mitsiou, Jacob Saleh, Marcus Sindrivanis and Josh Walker all kicking multiple goals.

The Under-16 Girls also got their campaign off to a great start, keeping Yarra Juniors 2 scoreless in an 82-point victory at Macleod Park. The NFL girls booted four goals in each of the opening three terms to race to an 81-point advantage by three-quarter time. Bridgette Hallal was named best in the win, with Sarah Chambers, Ciara Fitzgerald, Ebony Harris and Sarah Townsend each kicking two goals.

The NFL’s junior representative teams play again on Saturday, June 6 before playing the final match of the round-robin stage on Monday, June 8.
