The Northern Netball League’s first venture into representative netball was a huge success, with both team recording wins over the Southern Football League.

Both the A-Grade and B-Grade sides were able to claim comfortable victories in their respective encounters at Parade College on Friday night – giving the league a perfect record in its first representative fixtures.

The B-Grade team overcame a one-goal deficit to runaway with a 45-25 victory in the first match of the night.

A 12-goal to seven second term had the NNL ahead by four goals at the main break, before extending its advantage to a near unassailable 14 goals at the final break.

An 11-goal to five final term saw the girls claim a comfortable 20-goal win.

Greensborough goaler Chantelle Power was adjudged best on court for her supreme performance, while SFNL captain Sara Mercus was adjudged her side’s best in defeat.

The NNL’s A-Grade team kept the league’s momentum running into the second fixture of the night – opening up a five-goal advantage at quarter time on the back of an 11-goal opening term.

With Bronwyn Taylor strong in the midcourt and Stacey Gannon and Verhonda Smith controlling either end of the court, that advantage was extended to eight at the main break, before stretching to 12 heading into the final term.

A win never looked in doubt for the A-Grade team who stretched its lead further in the last to run away with a 47-34 victory.

Captain Stacey Gannon claimed the medal as the NNL’s best player in the 13-goal win, while Keysborough’s Tarryn Munro was named SFNL’s best player.

Well done to both the A-Grade and B-Grade teams on their victories in their first representative encounters.
