Bears turn to co-coaches

Thomastown Football Netball Club has confirmed their new senior men’s coach for the 2024 season, with David Folino and Sash Spiroski taking the mantle as co-coaches.

Spiroski was the club’s reserves coach in 2023, taking the side to the Division 2 Grand Final from third position, while Folino was the senior assistant to outgoing coach Peter Bugden this year.

Both men were teammates in the Bears’ 2014 Division 3 premiership triumph.

Thomastown missed the finals for the first time since 2017 in this year’s campaign, finishing two points behind fifth placed Watsonia.

It is with immense pleasure and excitement that we announce a significant development within our beloved club that will undoubtedly shape the future of the Thomastown Football Netball Club.

As we look forward to Season 2024, it is with great pride and enthusiasm that we introduce to you our new Senior Co-Coaches for the upcoming season: Sash Spiroski and David Folino.

These two remarkable individuals are already true greats of our club, with a combined total of over 400 games played in the Thomastown jumper spanning across three decades and an impressive collection of 4 Senior Premierships as players.

Sash has already demonstrated his coaching prowess this season by guiding our Reserves team to their first Grand Final appearance since 2016. His dedication to the club and his strategic match day preparation was evident throughout the season, and we are excited to see how he will continue to develop our playing group.

David served as Senior Assistant this season under the leadership of Peter Bugden and brings with him a wealth of VFL experience from his playing days. David’s commitment to getting the best out of himself as a player and person over his career will no doubt filter through to our playing group as they look to develop into the best players they can be into the future.

What truly set Sash and David apart during a thorough selection process was not just their remarkable track record but also their unwavering preparation, unparalleled hunger for this role, and their shared desire to bring success and stability back to our Senior team all while continuing to build and enhance our fantastic club culture.

They emerged victorious from a highly competitive field of qualified individuals, earning the respect and trust of the selection panel.

The appointment of Sash Spiroski and David Folino as our Senior Co-Coaches marks a new chapter in the storied history of our club. With their leadership, we are confident that our club will rise to new heights in Season 2024 and beyond.
