Berry shines at Youth Girls Championships

Congratulations to Montmorency’s Deanna Berry who was a member of the Vic Metro side that prevailed at the 2015 AFL Youth Girls National Championships.

Metro held on to beat Queensland by seven points on Friday at Bendigo Bank Stadium in Mandurah, Western Australia to claim the Championships.

It turned out to be a tremendous Grand Final to cap off a terrific week for the Youth Girls National Championships, with the two dominant teams from Pool A putting on quite a spectacle in a ferocious contest that went right down to the wire.

Vic Metro looked on top with the only three goals of the first half but Queensland then kicked the only two of the second half to be a real chance in the finish.

However, Vic Metro was able to hold on in a low-scoring affair to win 3.4 (22) to 2.3 (15).

The result enabled the Metro team to bring the cup back to Victoria after losing to Western Australian in the 2014 decider.

Berry had a wonderful carnival and was named in the forward pocket in the All-Australian team, which was selected at the conclusion of the carnival.

She was one of five Vic Metro representatives selected in the team.

Berry capped off the weekend by kicking 12 goals for Montmorency as the Magpies’ senior women’s team defeated St Albans in the VWFL.
