Cougars move top

Northcote Park is now the only team who has not suffered a loss in Section 2 this season, following its 15-goal win over previously undefeated Greensborough in Round 7.

The Cougars wasted no time getting the ball into its shooters with limited passes needed to get into shooters Sophia and Ashlee Vaughan, who rarely missed.

Although the Boro’s approach to getting the ball into its circle was slower, it still allowed it to get four goals in the opening quarter.

Fierce passes from Northcote Park continued, as impressive movement from the shooters in the circle meant there was always an option.

Chantelle Power’s notable save to keep the ball in play which resulted in a goal was a highlight of a better quarter for the Boro.

It fought back a six-goal deficit at quarter time to only be down by two going into the second half.

By early in the third term the scores were back level as new goal shooter for Greensborough Megan La Rocca made an impact in the goal circle.

Towards the end of the quarter the Cougars were able to speed up the match again, bringing the game back on their own term.

Turnovers also proved costly for Greensborough, as Northcote Park scored eight consecutive goals to end the term, allowing it to pull back a nine-goal lead entering the last quarter.

However in this quarter it didn’t look like the Cougars’ lead would be lost.

Overuse of the ball inside Greensborough’s circle and inaccurate passing cost the Boro, whilst the Cougars continued to pile on goals.

Their superior movement in the circle didn’t waiver throughout the game and this ability will make them a hard team to beat in Section 2.

Northcote Park now sits outright first on the Section 2 ladder at the Queen’s Birthday weekend, while Greensborough sits in third place.

Final score: Northcote Park (34) defeated Greensborough 2 (19)
