A LOOK back at last weekend’s junior results, with all junior teams returning to action after the school holidays break.

The Under 18 Girls competition saw South Morang remain undefeated after accounting for sixth-placed Epping by 77 points. Diamond Creek Womens moved within a game of second place after beating their closest rivals Darebin Falcons Womens by 15 points at Plenty Park. Montmorency and Mernda also recorded wins, against bottom two teams Hurstbridge and Eltham respectively.

Diamond Creek moved six points clear atop the Under 17 Blue ladder after it recorded its ninth win of the year, this time against Epping. The Creekers advantage at the top of the ladder was extended following Montmorency’s defeat at the hands of West Preston. The Roosters triumphed by 16 points in a big upset, enabling them to jump Research into fourth place with two rounds remaining. The Searchers were denied victory by just three points, going down to a wayward South Morang in a thriller. Just two games separate second through to fifth with a fortnight of the home and away season left to play.

Eltham continued its winning ways in the Under 17 Red competition, triumphing by a big margin over Wallan. It was much closer elsewhere, with Whittlesea moving to third after defeating fellow top four side Diamond Creek by 27 points. Yarrambat was gallant in defeat against second-placed Hurstbridge, going down by just 14 points.

The Under 16 Blue competition saw South Morang continue its unbeaten run, thrashing Research at Mill Park Lakes Reserve to claim a 12th straight win. James Hewson and Matthew Signorello were the Lions best in a dominant display. Eltham recorded a win over Epping to cement its spot in the finals series. Mill Park also got a win, comfortably accounting for fourth-placed Montmorency to remain in second spot.

South Morang has kept its winning run alive as it remains atop the Under 15 Blue ladder, following a triple-digit win over Greensborough. The best for the Lions were Ben Peterson with 11 goals and Nathan Viotto with three, whilst the Boro’s best in defeat were Lachlan Jepsen and Lucas Northeast. Epping flexed its muscles with a huge win at West Preston to remain in second, whilst Wallan got the win over Research to jump into third place.

The Under 15 Red competition saw Mill Park win an important match against Montmorency, beating the Magpies by eight points. The victory puts the Stallions in prime position to claim fourth spot at season’s end. Diamond Creek also got a win, handing Eltham consecutive losses in a 27-point result. The Creekers now remain in touch with first-placed Yarrambat who had the bye.

In the Under 15 Green competition, Bundoora Park survived a scare from Kinglake, winning by 14 points at Bundoora Park Oval. The Bolts were led by Jacob Virtue and Liam McLeod. Whittlesea remains atop the table by the barest of margins after accounting for Keon Park.

South Morang chalked up a dozen wins in the Under 14 Blue competition, putting in another dominant display against West Preston. Second-placed Laurimar Black kept Epping scoreless in a big win, while Montmorency also recorded a win against Eltham to further cement its finals spot. The remaining finals place will be contested between West Preston and Eltham.

In the Under 13 Blue competition, South Morang Blue still remains undefeated after beating Epping by 46 points at Mill Park Lakes Reserve. Whittlesea remains snapping at the Lions’ heals after it beat third-placed Greensborough by 33 points. An inaccurate Montmorency also recorded a win, beating Mill Park by 11 points to move two games clear in fourth spot at the same time.

The Under 12 Blue competition sees Eltham sit atop the table after kicking nine goals to two against Wallan. Mill Park also recorded a big win against Diamond Creek, whilst Research and South Morang Blue played out a much tighter affair. The Search eventually got over the line by four points.

Yarrambat’s unbeaten run came to an end in the Under 11 Blue competition, succumbing at the hands of second-placed South Morang by 38 points.
