A LOOK back at last weekend’s junior results as sides returned to the football field after the Queen’s Birthday weekend.

The Under-18 Girls competition saw Diamond Creek Womens and Epping both record wins in excess of 100 points. South Morang continued its unbeaten run, keeping Mernda to one point, while Darebin Falcons also recorded a win, beating bottom-placed Eltham by 67 points to remain second on the ladder.

In the Under-17 Blue competition, Montmorency bounced back after its upset loss to South Morang last round, smashing Epping by a big margin to maintain top place on the ladder. West Preston upset South Morang at home by 19 points, whilst Diamond Creek moved into second spot, coming from behind to defeat the previously second-placed Research by 27 points at Coventry Oval. The Creekers were led by Matthew Green, who kicked four goals, Michael Sharpless and Lochie Brannelly.

Eltham continued its winning streak in the Under-17 Red competition, beating Yarrambat by 34 points to remain two points ahead of second-placed Hurstbridge. Northcote bounced back after last round’s loss, upsetting Whittlesea in a tight affair by seven points at a muddy Whittlesea Showgrounds. The other winner for the round was Hurstbridge who comfortably accounted for Wallan at home ground Ben Frilay Oval.

The Under-16 Blue competition saw South Morang continue its unbeaten run, beating third-placed Eltham by an even 100 points at Mill Park Lakes Reserve. The Lions were led by Matthew Signorello, Steven Christou and James Hewson in what was a dominant display. Mill Park was too good for Research to cement its place in the top two. Montmorency was the other winner on Sunday, as it burst away from Epping in the final term to record a 45-point win in the closest match of the round.

South Morang has kept its winning run alive and remains atop the Under 15-Blue ladder, after proving far too good for Research. Ahmad Ahmad was South Morang’s best, booting five goals. He was assisted by Ben Peterson who also kicked five and Nathan Viotto with four majors. West Preston put together a brilliant second half to overcome a scare from Greensborough, beating them by 41 points in the end. Epping was the weekend’s other winner. Its big win over Wallan sees it remain snapping at the heels of South Morang, with just two points separating the top two sides.

The Under-15 Red competition saw Yarrambat produce a stunning performance to upset ladder leader Eltham at a packed out Yarrambat Memorial Park. It was an emotional win for club, in honour of late president Craig Walker. They were led by Martin Sin and William Reddrop. It makes for a very even top end of the table, with the Bats, Eltham and Diamond Creek all with equal percentage won ratios at the top of the ladder.

In the Under-15 Green competition, Bundoora Park reclaimed top spot over Whittlesea, beating the Eagles in a thrilling encounter by six points. Close all day, it was the Bolts who were able to hold on at the right time. Liam McLeod was best for the Bolts, with his match saving ruckwork in the last term a highlight. Kinglake was the competition’s other winner, defeating Epping by 27 points to move off the bottom of the ladder.

South Morang is still undefeated in the Under-14 Blue competition, extending its winning streak to nine matches with a big win over Epping. Montmorency recorded a good win over West Preston to remain in second spot, whilst Laurimar Black won away at Eltham to cement its top three spot.

In the Under-13 Blue competition, South Morang Blue remains atop the ladder after it beat Greensborough in a tight affair by 30 points. Epping beat Mill Park by 53 points away from home to move off the bottom of the table, whilst Whittlesea moved into second, beating Montmorency after keeping the Magpies to just the one point for the match.

The Under-12 Blue competition sees Eltham sit atop the table after proving too good for Research in the top of the table clash, winning by 48 points. Mill Park and South Morang Blue also recorded wins, beating Wallan and Diamond Creek respectively. The win sees the Lions close in on second spot whilst the Stallions sit in fourth place.

Yarrambat kept rolling along in the Under-11 Blue competition, winning its ninth straight game after beating Greensborough by 28 points. South Morang Blue maintained its hold on second spot, beating Montmorency by 27 points, whilst Eltham beat Epping by 16 points in a tight affair to move into third spot.
