Sport Wants You - Increasing the Talent Pool of Women Working In Sport

La Trobe University, in conjunction with the AFL Players’ Association, present “Sport Wants You – Increasing the Talent Pool of Women Working in Sport”.

“On field Australian women’s sport has been going from strength to strength with Football’s W-League, the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and Super Netball leading the way. In 2017 the AFLW caused a watershed moment that has created unprecedented momentum and seen female athletic talent firmly in the spotlight. Off field this story has not been replicated, across the sporting industry the number of female professionals remains disproportionately low.

Together La Trobe University and the AFLPA want to encourage the next generation of corporate and community female leaders to choose to study and work in sport. Australia need’s young women who have grown up playing and watching sport to turn their passion into profession.

To discuss this nationwide challenge to increase the talent pool of women in working in sport, we have brought together an expert panel who will speak to their own experiences, and offer sage advice to female school leavers and other interested parties about the benefits, opportunities and realities to working in sport. Join us for this important symposium.”

The symposium will be hosted by Michelle Redfern (Australian Financial Review Top 100 Women of Influence), as she leads a panel featuring Nicole Livingstone (Head of Women’s Football, AFL), Sarah Olle (AFL Journalist and Digital Producer at Fox Sports), and Bridie O’Donnell (Head of the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation).
