NFNL announces senior men’s football representative squad

The Northern Football Netball League has announced its senior men’s football squad to take on the Geelong Football Netball League at the 2019 AFL Victoria WorkSafe Community Championships.

The two leagues will be playing off for the No.1 spot on the AFL Victoria WorkSafe Community Championships rankings when they face on Saturday May 18 at Queens Park Highton.

The NFNL has announced a 28-player squad ahead of the match. 25 players named in the squad have previously represented the NFNL, including 21 who played in last year’s 40-point triumph over the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League.

Thirteen clubs have a representative in the squad, with all ten Meadows Greyhounds Division 1 clubs featured.

NFNL senior men’s football representative coach Garry Ramsay said he was pleased with the squad assembled.

“We genuinely believe that we’ve picked the best side available,” Ramsay told NFNL.org.au.

“Most of the squad has been together, this is their third year together so they’re really comfortable with each other.

“Our two previous performances have been really solid, and we see no reason why we won’t be putting in another really good performance.”

Having led the NFNL in big wins over both the MPNFL and Western Region Football League over the past two years, Ramsay said he and the squad were determined to claim the No.1 ranking.

“When I was first asked to get involved, my main motivation was to get to the number one spot,” Ramsay said.

“I think it was discussed even three years ago that our goal, in three years, was to get to the number one spot. We’re on track.

“There’s a bond between the group that this is it, we’re really excited to be going for that spot.”

The squad commences training on Monday May 6 at Coventry Oval, Diamond Creek from 6:00pm.
