Ramsay hops into Macleod

Ramsay comes to Macleod with an extensive coaching background that includes coaching Lower Plenty to the 2011 Division 2 premiership and, despite losing several key players, Lower Plenty was able to stay up in Division 1 in 2012.

He replaces Cristian Brandt who has decided to stand down after five years in the position.

Ramsay achieved great success coaching Panton Hill in two stints (2000-05 and 2008-09). He was the Northern Region Coach of the Year in 2004, the year he coached Panton Hill to its first and only Division 2 finals appearance. He also coached Watsonia in 2010.

Ramsay has also worked in junior development with DVFL representative teams and was the Northern Knights Under-15 development coach in 2006-07.

Ramsay played just over a decade (1987-97) with Eltham and is a triple premiership player (1989, 1995, 1997). He won Eltham’s best and fairest in the premiership year of 1997.

He has Level 2 coaching accreditation and regularly attends coaching seminars and conferences to further his coaching education.

Club president Michael Lovett welcomed Ramsay’s appointment.

“Garry brings a wealth of experience to our club. His knowledge of the game and in particular his ability to develop players will be invaluable,” he said.

“He arrives at a crucial time in the club’s development. Puffa has left the playing group in excellent shape and we are delighted hewill still be with us in a non-football role.”

Details of pre-season training will be announced shortly.
