Ramsay to depart at season’s end

Garry Ramsay will stand down as Macleod coach at the end of the 2018 season.

Ramsay joined the Roos at the conclusion of the 2012 season and has gone on to become one of the most highly-respected coaches in grassroots football.

He guided the club to the 2015 premiership – its first in Division 1 since 1971 – before reaching the grand final again in 2016 and 2017.

The Roos have already clinched this year’s minor premiership and will feature in their fifth-successive finals campaign.

Ramsay has served as coach of the NFNL representative team for the past two years and in 2017 was named the AFL Victoria Northern Region Senior Coach of the Year for the second time.

Macleod confirmed in a statement that Ramsay would depart at season’s end, following six years at the helm.

Read the statement below:

Macleod Football Netball Club wishes to advise that senior coach, Garry Ramsay, will pursue other coaching opportunities at the end of the club’s 2018 finals campaign.

After six successful years, where Garry has led our club to five-consecutive finals series, including the 2015 premiership, we this week mutually agreed to allow Garry to broaden his already impressive coaching credentials elsewhere in 2019.

Garry has been instrumental in the development and growth of the Macleod Football Netball Club and under his leadership and guidance we have evolved into one of the leading metropolitan football clubs in Victoria.

Over the past six years Garry has built deep, strong relationships with all of our players, supporters and committee and whilst we will be saddened by his departure, we are excited at the opportunity to continue our united campaign toward the 2018 finals.
