Ryan calls an end to Bulls tenure

Michael Ryan will step down as senior men’s coach of the Bundoora Football Netball Club after four years at the helm.

Ryan joined the Bulls in 2020 following coaching stints at Hurstbridge and Lower Plenty.

In his two full seasons at the club, he led Bundoora to back-to-back Melbourne Greyhounds Division 1 Grand Final appearances, after finishing last year in second position and this season in third place during the home and away campaigns.

Read below a statement from Bundoora President Paul King:

Dear Members, Sponsors and Supporters,

I wanted to take a moment to share some important news with you.

It is with mixed emotions that I announce the decision of our Senior Coach, Michael Ryan to not seek re-appointment for the 2024 season. After much thought and contemplation, Michael has reached this decision due to his desire to spend more time with family and his growing business.

Coaching is not a just a privilege profession, it is a way of life. The role demands an extraordinary commitment of time, patience, and energy throughout the year.

Over the past four years, Michael’s dedication and volunteerism has been inspiring. The Bundoora Football Netball Club committee acknowledge Michael’s countless hours spent in recruitment, preseason training, game day readiness and the mentoring of young men to be the best versions of themselves.

Michael has been the cornerstone of fostering an inclusive environment that promotes friendship, memories, and personal growth. He simply values the contribution of all people.

Michael joined the club at the conclusion of the 2019 season. He has led a renewal of the playing list and game plan to navigate the return to September action. This has been complimented with resetting standards, attracting talent to the club and promoting a values-based culture.

Furthermore, working through the COVID interrupted seasons required intensive effort in caring for people remotely.

Whilst we can collectively reflect on Michael’s immense contribution and legacy, it would be remiss not to acknowledge the sacrifices of his family – Amy and Parker over the past four years.

The club has commenced the search for a new Senior Coach and hope to make some exciting announcements soon. On behalf of the committee, thank you for your support and commitment to the club.
