The Northern Football League has announced its preliminary squad for the 2015 AFL Victoria Metropolitan Championships.

The league has included 39 players in the squad as it begins preparations for its clash with the Victorian Amateur Football League (VAFA) at Visy Park on March 28.

The two leagues are fighting to be crowned the best football league in metropolitan Melbourne, with the VAFA currently holding the number one ranking. The NFL is ranked number two.

The squad is comprised of players from all 10 of the league’s Division 1 clubs, with premier Greensborough the most represented club with six players selected.

18 members of the 2015 squad also played in last year’s side that was triumphant over the Essendon District Football League (EDFL) by 37 points.

Six players from the 2014 team weren’t selected this year after deciding to play outside the NFL in the upcoming football season. They include captain Ryan Jackson and forward Cameron Cloke.

Amongst the inclusions to this year’s squad are Frank Rosbrook medallist Matthew Vasilevski, former Carlton utility Paul Bower, Greensborough premiership ruckman Michael Hooper and former Collingwood VFL captain Nick Riddle.

The NFL interleague squad will again be coached by Jason Heatley. He will be assisted by 2014 Grand Final coaches Robert Hyde and Craig Hunter, and former Macleod coach Cristian Brandt.

The squad will commence training in February.
