The Big Freeze is back!

Published on Friday, June 5, 2020

The annual, and iconic, Big Freeze is back for a sixth year, this Monday, June 8 in support of FightMND.

The NFNL has proudly supported FightMND in recent years, hosting an annual ‘SockIt2MND Round’.

Sadly, we are unable to proceed with the themed round this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic but we would love for the NFNL community to still support the team at FightMND and rally behind the tremendous cause.

The annual Big Freeze event, which involves sporting icons taking the plunge down the Big Freeze slide into an ice-filled pool will go on this year, albeit in a different manner.

The event will look different to previous years with no Queen’s Birthday AFL blockbuster at the MCG nor, sadly the Big Freeze slide as we’ve come to know it but that hasn’t stopped the team at FightMND. The fight must go on!

Instead, a nominated player from each AFL club will make a splash in their own unique and individual way by completing a ‘Big Freeze 6 Ice Challenge’ at their club.

FightMND is incredibly thankful to all 18 AFL clubs who have answered the call again, just as they did in 2018 when the coaches slid for MND. The stars of the AFL will be at the forefront of the event, doing what they can to freeze MND and raise awareness and vital funds in the fight against ‘The Beast’.

Each of the challenges have been filmed and will air during a special 1-hour presentation on Channel 7 this Monday.

With each nominated Ice Challenge Hero comes a special club ‘host’ to bring you the excitement and entertainment, and perhaps even providing that extra nudge for each player when completing their icy challenge.

Final days to get your Big Freeze 6 Beanies

A big thank you to the FightMND Army who have already purchased their Big Freeze 6 beanies. If you haven’t had the chance yet, or maybe want to grab one for a relative or friend, be sure to get one while they’re still available as time, and stock, is running out fast.

A reminder too that beanies are still available in Coles and Bunnings stores so we encourage you to head into your local store and purchase one there.
