Young guns to represent Victoria

BEN MAJOR from Diamond Creek and JOEL TRUDGEON from Research have been selected in the School Sport Victoria Australian Football 12 Years and Under State Team.

This team will compete in the annual School Sport Australia Australian Football Championships, which will be held this year in Sydney, NSW from July 19 to 26.

Ben (pictured right) and Joel (pictured below) participated in a series of trials comprising young footballers from across the state to gain selection in the final team of 23.

The presentation of the Big V Jumper took on special significance this year, occurring at the Shrine of Remembrance to honour the 1993 captain of the 12 years and under team, Cameron Baird.

Cameron pursued a career in the army and was killed in the line of duty in Afghanistan in 2013. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery earlier this year.

It is a great honour to be selected to represent your state and play on grounds such as the SCG and Spotless Stadium.

Everyone at the Diamond Creek Football Club, the Research Football Club and Northern Football League wishes Ben and his Victorian teammates all the best in their campaign to win the Australian title.

We look forward to seeing both players progression through the junior ranks with Diamond Creek and Research over the forthcoming years.

Well done, Ben and Joel!
