2022 NFNL Best and Fairest Awards

All the results from the 2022 Rosbrook Medal Night.

West Preston-Lakeside ruck Matthew Harman claimed the Frank Rosbrook Medal as the best and fairest player in Melbourne Greyhounds Division 1.

He became the first West Preston-Lakeside player to win a senior football best and fairest award since Nick Meese in 2010.

Harman has taken his game to another level this season, polling maximum votes six times and was consistently taking it up to the best ruck’s in the competition.

Montmorency’s Liam Wale-Buxton received the most votes in the count, however he was suspended in the home and away campaign, making him ineligible to win the award.

11 years after winning his first award, Lower Plenty swingman Darcy Barden claimed this year’s MC Labour Division 2 best and fairest. Barden polled his 21 votes between Round’s 2 and 14 to claim the award ahead of Banyule’s Jack Langford.

Chris Ryall midfielder Chris Ryall became a multiple Heidelberg Golf Club Division 3 best and fairest winner after taking out the award last night. It completes an incredible two seasons for Ryall in which he has claimed two best and fairest awards and a competition MVP award.

West Preston-Lakeside’s Ashleigh Snow won the Winning Edge Division 1 Women’s best and fairest. She became the first Roosters player to win a Division 1 women’s best and fairest.

St Mary’s midfielder Jessica Hardy took out the SG Print & Paper Division 2 Women’s best and fairest, while Gulia Ceravolo won the Cleaning Melbourne Division 3 best and fairest after starring in Mernda’s grand final run this year.

Ivanhoe’s Lauren Henderson claimed the Section 1 netball best and fairest. She became the first player from the club to win a Section 1 best and fairest, adding to a fantastic 2022 season in which she won Section 1 Team of the Year honours.

Other netball best and fairest award winners were Amelia Beveridge (Section 2); Sarah Thorpe (Section 3); Mollie McKeown (Section 4), Stephanie Jones (Section 5), Danielle Sampson (Section 6), Shannon McLean (Section 7), Khala Angelkoski (Section 8), Shavita Vijay (Section 9), Bianca Clamp (Section 10), Zara Brazier (Section 11), Chloe Villiva (Section 12) and Ashlee Hansen (Section 13).

Matthew Smith made it back to back Division 1 Coaches MVP’s, he shared the award with North Heidelberg’s Jesse Tardio. Meanwhile Riley Loton claimed the Division 2 Coaches MVP for the first time as did Chris Ryall, who went one better than his second palce in 2019 to win the Division 3 award.

Ashleigh Snow doubled up to take out both the took out the Division 1 women’s best and fairest Coaches MVP. Jessica Hardy also picked up both awards in the Division 2 competition while Mernda star Awek Dut won the Division 3 award.

Heidelberg West was named the 2022 Senior Club of the Year, Luke Richardson was awarded Field Umpire of the Year, Emma Rutkis the Netball Umpire of the Year, while Montmorency’s Gail Bylthe was named the Volunteer of the Year.
