More commonly known as Budley, he started his football career at Diamond Creek as a 16-year-old in the under-19s.
Bud has played well over 200 senior games, with the remainder made up in the reserves where he is still going strongly at the ripe age of 38.
His list of achievements makes for impressive reading and is the envy of anyone who has pulled on the boots.
Aside from notching up 300 games this week, Bud was also club captain in 2003 and 2004.
He has been an important part of two senior premierships, the first one in 1998 under coach Danny Davenport, the second coming in 2003 under the tutelage of Neale ‘Cowboy’ Carroll who sadly passed away last year.
In recent years Bud has also had great success, winning a reserves premiership in 2009 as captain under coach Glenn (Mushy) Walle. He also served as an assistant coach of the team and in the same year was also runner up for the competition best and fairest award.
In 2010 he won the leading goal kicking award for the reserves competition in a season where his reserves side was runner up for the premiership.
Last year he became the first Diamond Creek player to kick 500 goals for the football club (he said he didn’t like handballing it to his old mate Leggie), and once again played off in the Grand Final, where the Creekers were downed by Lower Plenty.
In 1999 he also represented the then Diamond Valley Football League in its representative carnival.
Budley’s career started off as an on-baller before a move down to the forward line later in his career where he has become a small forward that every coach loves to have.
This year he has taken on the roll as the reverses coach and the impact he is having on the group is significant. Everyone at Diamond Creek is looking to watching him become a long-term coach and, if his coaching career is like his playing days, he will have a lot of success.
Budley has a partner Kate, and two children – Georgia (5) and Ethan (3), yes a little Budley!
His stature might be small but his knowledge of the game is huge.
His mantra as a player and coach is simple – be very loyal, committed, honest to yourself and mates on and off the ground, don’t take things for granted and give 100% on and off the field – all traits he possesses in bucket loads.
