The Northern Football League’s juniors enjoyed a strong representative campaign, winning 13 of 15 matches at the 2016 AFL Victoria Metro Junior Championships.
The league’s three under-15 teams and two under-14 teams went through the opening two rounds of the Championships undefeated, before claiming another three wins in Round 3 on Monday.
The Under-15A, Under-15B and Under-14A teams each won all three of their matches at this year’s Championships. Meanwhile, the Under-15 Girls and Under-14B sides won two of their three games.
By finishing top of the Division 2 Pool A ladder, the Under-14A team’s success ensured the NFL’s junior representative teams will all be promoted to Division 1 next year.
The Under-15 Girls were the NFL’s only team to compete in Division 1 this year. Despite falling to the Yarra Junior Football League on Monday, the NFL’s Under-15 Girls finished second on the ladder, meaning the will play off against the YJFL in a grand final on June 25.
The NFL congratulates all players and coaches on an extremely successful representative campaign and wishes the Under-15 Girls the best of luck in their upcoming grand final. The league also thanks all parents and volunteers for their efforts throughout the Championships.
