Published on Friday, April 12, 2013

It’s a massive week of football as we officially start the 2013 season.

DIVISION 1

The action begins tonight at Bill Lawry Oval as Northcote Park hosts Heidelberg in a re-match of the 2012 Division 1 Grand Final.

The reigning premiers will unveil new faces Kane Maghamez, Jai Middleton and Ben Irving, while Heidelberg welcomes 10 new players who didn’t feature on its list last year.

Amongst those to debut for the Tigers tonight are former AFL forward Brad Miller, former Ovens and Murray best and fairest Jamie Allan and 2012 Essendon District Football League best and fairest winner Mark Lynch.

Lower Plenty will welcome former West Preston-Lakeside duo Matthew Vasilevski and Chas Bromley and the returning Darcy Barden when it hosts Eltham tomorrow. For Eltham, veteran Lachie Richardson will play his 200th game.

Greensborough and Macleod meet at War Memorial Oval, with both sides to play their first competitive games under new coaches – with Robert Hyde and Garry Ramsay to take the reins of their new clubs respectively.

Xavier Clarke and Alex Gleeson are the two big inclusions for West Preston-Lakeside ahead of its clash with Montmorency. The Magpies will also roll out some new signings, with Harley Ryan, Ryan Willits and Rowan Nayna amongst the Pies’ inclusions.

Meanwhile, Peter Shepherd is named at full forward for his first game at Epping.
