After trailing the Roos by three points at half-time, Greensborough dug deep and grinded out a 13.13 (91) to 9.8 (62) win.
Led at the front by Conlan Gunn Josh Griffiths and Ricky Mullins, the Boro dominated in the middle all day in what was a tight contest for most of the afternoon.
It was a scrappy affair throughout but a couple of free-kicks courtesy off some indiscipline from Macleod gave Greensborough the edge in the second half and allowed it to pull off the win.
Macleod got off to a quick start with a running goal from Kane Shaw, but Greensborough responded straight away with two quick goals from Luke Stanton.
At the end of the first term, it was all tied up at 20 apiece with Macleod having all the momentum. Leading for Macleod were Matthew Clark and Matthew Veszpremi.
The second quarter was low scoring with no team really getting a hold over the other. There were only three goals scored and seven behinds. It was a tackling affair between Veszpremi and Gunn in the midfield with both dominating the middle.
At the end of the quarter, Macleod was holding onto a three-point lead. Greensborough was controlling most of the play in the quarter but couldn’t convert it on the scoreboard only kicking one goal and five behinds.
In the third term, Greensborough broke away from Macleod taking a 13-point lead heading into the final term. The Boro was creating space through the middle and finding an avenue to goal through the wing.
Mullins and Gunn were again dominant in the midfield for the Boro and were starting to gain control over their counterparts in Veszpremi and Cathal Corr.
The Roos kicked an early goal at the start of the final term through Veszpremi, which gave them some momentum but the Boro, as they had for most of the match, came back with a wet sail and kicked five in a row to secure a gripping victory.
The only bright point for Macleod in the final term was a late contested mark by Justin White on the boundary. which he then converted to narrow down the margin to 34 points.
Gunn, Griffiths and Tim Bongetti starred for Greensborough with Bogetti kicking four goals and Gunn getting man of the match honours. Macleod’s best were Hamish Paynter, Corr and Veszpremi.
The Boro plays Montmorency away this week while Macleod takes on last season’s premiers Northcote Park at home with both side searching for their first win of the season.
