JOEL Steindl will coach Watsonia’s under-19s team in its return to the competition next year.
Steindl has spent the past three seasons as the Under-16 Development Squad coach for TAC Cup side Northern Knights.
He has joined the Saints to work alongside close friend and recently-appointed senior coach Corey McCall as the club looks to re-establish its under-19 program after a one-year hiatus.
“Working with Corey again gives me the opportunity to develop a young group and mould them hopefully into really good senior football players down the track for the Watsonia footy club,” Steindl said.
“We’re just encouraging boys who may have opted out of footy for a year or two to try other sports or for work or school commitments just to come back and have a kick.
“The club is willing to give any young fella a go at enjoying their footy again and being part of a team and club environment.
“Our aim is to develop and mould a young group and fast track them as quick as we can and develop their skill set to prepare them for senior footy down the track if that’s what they want to aspire to.”
Watsonia will commence pre-season training on Wednesday, November 19.
Steindl said the five-week training program prior to Christmas would focus on including new players into the senior group and increasing players’ fitness and skill set.
He welcomed any player looking to return to the football field to contact himself or the club about playing for Watsonia next year.
A statement from Watsonia Sporting Club read:
“Joel has worked in the TAC Cup system with our recently appointed senior coach Corey McCall so we believe a strong working relationship should grow from this to our players’ benefit.
“We are dedicated to developing our club via youth and as such we need the very best people we can find to enable this.
“As we did not field an under-19s squad in 2014 we provide a great opportunity for groups of young players who want to play each week and fast track their football abilities in a fun and progressive environment.
