Northern Knights head coach Marco Bello has accepted a full-time development coaching position at the Hawthorn Football Club.
The position will involve Bello replacing Damian Carroll as coach of the Box Hill Hawks in the VFL, as well as working as a development coach at Hawthorn.
Bello coached the Knights for one season, taking them to the finals series for the first time in three years.
They eased passed Gippsland Power in the elimination final, before exiting the premiership race in a tight semi final loss to eventual premier, Eastern Ranges.
In a statement released earlier today, the Northern Knights thanked Bello for his service to the club this year.
“The Northern Knights thank Marco for his coaching efforts in 2013 and congratulate him on his new appointment. We wish him every success in his future coaching endeavours at Hawthorn,” the statement said.
“Marco’s appointment highlights the strength of his coaching both with the Northern Knights in the TAC Cup competition and his time with the AFL Victoria Development League as coach of the Box Hill Hawks.”
Prior to joining the Knights, Bello played three seasons with Box Hill as a playing assistant coach.
He became senior coach of Box Hill’s Development side in 2011 and led the team to successive Grand Finals in his two-year stint in the role, which included the 2011 premiership.
The Northern Knights U/18 TAC Cup Squad Head Coaching position has been advertised and applications close this Friday, October 18.
