One of Lalor Football Club’s favourite sons will return next season, with Steven Marshall confirmed as senior coach for 2014.
Marshall replaces Damien Zanic who has joined Watsonia for the 2014 season, following just one year with the Bloods.
Marshall has a long and proud history with Lalor, where he holds the record as the longest serving captain having played over 200 games during his career.
A four-time premiership player and three-time best and fairest winner, he is one of the most highly decorated players in the club’s history.
Marshall returns to Lalor as it looks to rise from one of the most difficult periods in its history. The Bloods have missed the Division 2 finals for the past two years – including a seventh-place finish in 2013 when they won just four games.
In exciting news for the Bloods, Marshall will be joined by brother-in-law Jarrod King who has been confirmed as a playing assistant.
King joins from North Heidelberg, where he won a Division 1 premiership, two best and fairest awards and earned selection in the Division 1 Team of the Year on five occasions.
Lalor has also confirmed Matthew Busuttil will coach its reserves team for the second consecutive year.
A club statement acknowledged Busuttil had a tough first season – claiming the wooden spoon on the back of just one win – but with a new coaching structure and more experience under his belt, the club and players are excited to have him back as they look to return to the top four.
Dave Russell will replace Shaun Tofts as under-19 coach. Russell has had great success as a junior coach at Lalor for over a decade, winning the under-17 premiership in 2012 amongst a host of finals appearances.
